Power lifting consists of three lifts:
a squat lift, bench press, and a dead lift. In 2000, Chavez
won the Natural Athletic Strength Association (NASA) championship
at Nashville in his age and weight class. He lifted a
total of 1,537 pounds in the three events.
Chavez excelled in the squat lift, lifting 644 pounds,
definitely his strongest event, having before squatted
867 pounds in training. Chavez bench pressed 336 pounds
(just coming back from a devastating injury that tore
his right pectorial muscle from the bone), and dead lifted
556 pounds, " He totals right up there with the best

NASA.
